Outreach and Education: Your donations to the Asian Liver Center would be extremely helpful in our efforts to spread awareness about hepatitis B and liver cancer. Some examples of the current and past outreach events include "3 for Life," the Youth Leadership Conference, Team HBV, the Jade Ribbon Campaign, and annual LIVERight 5k walk/run. |

Research: We are currently focusing on three main projects: screening blood samples from liver cancer patients for the presence of several potential diagnostic markers, studying the prognostic and possible therapeutic value of a novel tumor marker in predicting tumor recurrence, and investigating the anti-tumor activity of a novel drug in liver cancer. This novel chemotherapeutic agent has proven effective in inhibiting the growth of human liver cancer cell lines. We hope to study its efficacy in liver cancer patients in future clinical trials. We are also planning a major project to identify genetic markers that can help to predict an individual's susceptibility to developing liver cancer. Hence, the ALC's research goals can only be realized with the generous support of our donors. |

Adopt-an-Intern: Since its establishment in 2000, the Outreach Intern Program has recruited about twenty-five talented Stanford undergraduates each year. Our interns contribute to all aspects of work at the center, including website development and management, and the design and production of all ALC multimedia publicity material. In addition, they organize major projects such as the annual Youth Leadership Conference and "3 for Life", conduct outreach at health fairs and cultural festivals, and give hepatitis B presentations to community members. We now invite you to partner with us by supporting our Adopt-an-Intern program. A pledge of $2500 - less than $10 a day - can sponsor one intern for a year. More importantly, your contribution will give a promising undergraduate the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in grassroots advocacy, skills in cross-cultural communication, and knowledge of API health disparities, as well as to serve local and international communities. |

Asia and Pacific Alliance to Eliminate Viral Hepatitis (APAVH): APAVH is a sustainable global coalitionof public and private partners to eliminate the transmission of viral hepatitis, and reduce the complications of chronic viral hepatitis through advocacy, education, vaccination and treatment, and by sharing best practices and development of regional and country-specific goals, and to promote the implementation of WHO regional recommendations. The ALC serves as the Executive Secretariat for APAVH and support various APAVH projects in China, including education campaigns for both pregnant women and youth and anti-discrimination and awareness campaigns. We would like to thank all of the contributing partners who have already shown their support for this new global initaitive. |
