San Mateo Hep B Free

In 2009, San Mateo County in California began currently working to replicate the successful SF Hep B Free Campaign in San Francisco, California. San Mateo County, the ALC and partners are currently working on their own San Mateo "Hep B Free" Campaign.

San Mateo Hep B Free aims to eradicate hepatitis B among Asian, Pacific Islander and other high risk residents of San Mateo County, who bear a disproportionate burden of liver disease and liver cancer as a result of undetected chronic hepatitis B infection.  1 in 10 Asians and Asian-Americans have chronic hepatitis B, as compared to 1 in 1000 Caucasians with the disease, making it the greatest health disparity affecting Asian and Pacific Islander populations both locally and worldwide. Through partnerships with medical, business and community leaders, San Mateo Hep B Free's mission is to:

The SM Hep B Free campaign is modeled after the highly successful San Francisco Hep B Free campaign, which since 2003 has implemented gold-standard community education campaigns, generated large-scale public awareness through multi-level media outlets, improved primary care clinician knowledge through educational opportunities, improved access to care for uninsured persons with chronic HBV, and improved access to vaccination for susceptible individuals.  SM Hep B Free aims to replicate certain aspects of the SF Hep B Free campaign, while forming partnerships with local community leaders to collaboratively identify and address San Mateo's specific needs and design activities that will have long-lasting beneficial impact in the county.  SM Hep B Free partners include San Mateo County Medical Association, San Mateo County Health Department, Asian Liver Center at Stanford University, Health Plan of San Mateo, Hospital Consortium of San Mateo County, Hospital Council of Northern and Central California and Hospital districts.
